ISO18404: Where Do I Stand as a Lean Six Sigma Practitioner?

April 23, 2018

As you may or may not know by now, the new International ISO standard, ISO18404, launched in December 2016 ahead of schedule. We’ve not spoken too much about the combination of both Lean and Six Sigma as an opportunity for certification both on an organisational level, and a personnel level.

If your organisation is applying or thinking of applying Lean Six Sigma, you’ll be happy to hear there IS an opportunity to be certificated simultaneously for both practises; it’s similar for your Lean Six Sigma practitioner.

Under the new International ISO Standard, ISO18404, there are three levels of practitioner in Lean Six Sigma. However, the individual seeking certification will have to display competencies for both practises. For example:

Lean & Six Sigma Green Belt

The competencies for this level of expertise comprise the combined competencies of Green Belt in Six Sigma AND Lean Practitioner.

Lean & Six Sigma Black Belt

The competencies for this level of expertise comprise the combined competencies of Black Belt in Six Sigma AND Lean Leader.

Lean & Six Sigma Master Black Belt

The competencies for this level of expertise comprise the combined competencies of Master Black Belt in Six Sigma AND Lean Expert.

Remember to be pro-active in the recording and documentation of your work, you’ll be required to adhere to regular checks by both your organisation and a certification body.
