Chas McCann BSc
Senior consultant with extensive blue chip management experience in Six
Sigma, Business Excellence, Benchmarking programmes and the Quality Function
in the UK and internationally.
Charles is a Senior Consultant with Services Ltd. specialising on the implementation
of Six Sigma programmes, Business Excellence and Benchmarking techniques in
a wide range of organisations. As part of this role, he acted as a central
advisor to the GEC/Marconi group of companies on external and internal Benchmarking
and also was involved in similar project work for Johnson and Johnson. Other
projects include similar work with a group of nine major charities and projects
for Rolls-Royce, Motorola and Bath & North East Somerset Council. Recent
projects also include evaluating Lafarge Contracting against the EFQM Excellence
Model, providing consultancy in connection with the Great Western/Thames Link
Bid and co-leading a course for Rolls-Royce Process Excellence Project Sponsors
in the UK, USA, Canada, Norway, Germany and Brazil.
Charles joined Rank Xerox in 1966, after graduating from the University of
London. He has extensive experience and expertise working in many functions
including Purchasing and Production with particular emphasis on the Implementation
of Total Quality and Lean Manufacturing.
In 1986, he led the Xerox Worldwide Sheet Metal commodity team and was responsible
for the management of the worldwide supplier base. In this role he undertook
the benchmarking of all activities including two trips to Japan to study their
approach to Just in Time and Lean Manufacturing. In this role he worked for
the World Wide Centralised Materials Management function of Xerox and spent
two years on assignment in the Netherlands.
Charles was responsible for Quality and Technical Services in the Rank Xerox
Manufacturing and Supply Chain from 1989, and during this assignment he coordinated
the Rank Xerox Manufacturing and Supply Chain activities for the European
Quality Award and the introduction of the RX self assessment programme. He
was responsible for achievement of the World Class levels of Productivity
and Quality throughout the manufacturing and supply chain activities.
His last assignment in Xerox was as the UK Business Manager for Xerox Quality
Services, a Business Division, which provided consultancy and training in
the field of Total Quality and Continuous Improvement. In this role he worked
with many organisations in the public and private sector. During this time
Charles was invited to host seminars on the Principles of Supplier Base Management
in Istanbul by the largest Holding Company in Turkey.
Since leaving Xerox in 1998, Charles has continued to work with Services
Ltd. to support organisations involved in Cultural Change, Benchmarking, the
implementation of Total Quality strategies, Supplier Base Management, Six
Sigma and training in the associated tools and techniques. In this role he
worked at the GEC Management College at Dunchurch, where he was retained as
a specialist advisor in the Benchmarking and Business Excellence Centres.
Charles was also invited by Professor Tony Bendell to be a joint author of
the Benchmarking module for the MSc’s in the Management of Quality Excellence
for the University of Leicester where he also acts as a part-time expert tutor
and marker.
Chas has extensive experience in the training and consultancy of tools and
techniques used within a Total Quality environment such as Process Improvement,
Problem Solving, Interactive Skills, Teamwork and Policy Deployment. He has
helped clients with senior management programmes, process, and management
coaching for the application of process improvement and problem solving tools
and techniques. Charles has also designed and led a company wide process improvement
programme for a large client organisation.
